Dr. Neela Thapar Moorjani, a Scholar, Researcher, Thinker, and a college & university topper (Gold-Medalist)—has lived in the United States for the last 30 years. Her deep interest in Indian scriptures made republishing of The Shrī Rāma-Charita-Mānasa translation, written by her grandfather, Shri Chandan Lal Dhody, her “dream project” —that allowed her to wholeheartedly pour her creative talents into its conception and creation.
Her goal is to make the scriptures appealing and comprehensible to everyone—particularly so to the younger generations, to imbibe the deep wisdom embedded in them.
A Panjab University alumna, she got her doctorate from Kent State University (1999) and subsequently a Post-Doc from Boston University (2003). She currently pursues her passion for studying scriptures, writing & editing, music, and design. She lives in Cary, North Carolina with her husband and two young adult children.
Straddling the two worlds, West and East, she has a greater understanding of both cultures and, of how Indian philosophic thought stands in sharp contrast with Western thought. Having lived in the West for most of her adult life, she has a deep appreciation of the Vedic scriptures and the eternal wisdom they hold. And having raised children, she realizes the importance of passing this rich Indian heritage of knowledge and culture to future generations, living within and without India.
She thinks every culture and society needs a Hero, and for ours, the ideals are Rāma and Krishṇa, who are our eternal heroes. She believes the education of our epic scriptures is necessary for everyone—Rāma-Charita-Mānasa being one, that does not just help inculcate the basic values of respect, compassion, and integrity, to grow into exemplary humans; but more importantly, equips one with the wisdom and discrimination to lead meaningful and purposeful lives and strengthen family bonds. Besides, it is the finest work amongst the classic epic literature of the world.
